The hotel fire – a personal experience

Further to the item of 3 June, there has been a comment sent to this blog which gives a fairly graphic, first-hand  account of the fire that affected Minerva 1 at Bellevue.

“My family and I we have 2 young boys 5 and 2 and we were on the 6th floor against our will on the day of the fire, it was an absolute nightmare as the whole hotel completely filled with thick smoke, we were woken up at around 3am by banging on the doors and screaming. When I opened the door it was scary, met by thick smoke we grabbed the kids and made our way down the stairs, by the time we got to the 3rd floor we could not breathe due to the smoke, worried sick we managed to find a room where we stayed on the balcony until the fire brigade came about an hour later. Had the fire alarm have been sounded straight away, we would not have had this bad experience, both our boys are still traumatised.”
